Today on the blog I partnered with ebay and ShopStyle to share all the search terms, sellers, and secrets to scoring a killer deal on one of a kind vintage rugs!

The whole world wants one-of-a-kind vintage rugs. It’s like sweet, sweet air.  I think we’ve all been a part of a conversation (even a one-sided IG convo) where someone shares an amazing rug that they found on eBay for a steal and wholly inspired we click over only to find stuff that is WAY more than they paid (and out of our budget!)

Man, alive, they can be expensive, unless you know the secret handshake + search terms + take a blood oath never to reveal your sources. Well, get ready, cause I am bringing you into the club.

My office has been limping along since we moved into the Merc. There are some really great elements, like the bookcases, and the floors and the propagation planters, but it’s never really been given much overall design attention. To be honest, the biggest thing that the space really really needed was a rug.

And a new planter. That terra cotta one has been making me crazy since I bought it. The tone is wrong with the floors and the desk. It was just SO peachy.

I needed contrast, and I needed it now!

I have teamed up with eBay to show you some of my favorite search terms for killer vintage rugs. And did you know they have amazing rugs that you don’t have to bid on?! Unique rugs that ship freeee!  Gorgeous rugs that are less than what you’d spend on an aimless Target trip!

SIGN ME UP!

Let’s go rug shopping!

Buying a vintage rug on eBay

eBay has literally millions of items for sale. The key is embracing that reality and picking a path. But you have to start somewhere. Here are my best tips!

Tip #1: Know your size!

Vintage rugs are sized differently than manufactured rugs. What I mean is that the dimension will vary by rug. Don’t be nervous about finding something the EXACT size (like 8×10); just know what your range is. For example, you are looking for something that is 8′ wide. Maybe your actual range is between 7’6-8’9.

Tip #2: When you are searching for vintage rugs, a specific keyword will change everything.

In the world of search, the term you use is everything. When hunting for rugs, there are a few things I’ve learned. If you search for a specific geographical location (i.e., Turkish Rug or Moroccan Rug), you’ll get specific styles. This is because different countries/cities/tribes make different styles of rugs! For example, Turkish rugs tend to have sharper cleaner designs and shapes, unlike Moroccan rugs, which are a little more fluid and free.

If you search something more design trend-focused like boho rug, you’ll get a lot of newly manufactured rugs that have similar vibes of vintage ones, and a mix of styles, but they aren’t one of a kind vintage finds.

Step 1: Start your search

We all have to start somewhere. These are some of my favorite keywords to use when I’m searching for vintage rugs! A lot of these keywords are regions where the rugs are made and have their own distinct style. Click through and you can see the different vibes!

Tip: If you are using any of these and getting a lot of new manufactured rugs, just put vintage in front of the keyword!

Step 2: Follow the rabbit hole

Once you’ve started searching, its time to fall down the rabbit hole. If you find a style, pattern or vibe that you like, click on the listing (even if it’s the wrong size!)

Scroll to the end of the listing and you’ll see suggestions based on the style. This is how I find all of my rugs. Keep following the breadcrumbs, and clicking deeper until you find your unicorn rug! I always do rug searches on my computer (vs. my phone); that way, when I find something that I like, I right click and open the listing in a different tab. Then I’ll go back through and revisit them with fresh eyes!

Check your favorite trusted sellers (or mine!)

My favorite seller (ecarpetgallery) has thousands of rug options and hands down the best prices. I’ve always had a great experience with them, and I love their selections. I also checked with my favorite rug hunter bestie Suzy and got her faves, check them out below!

Tip:

One of the best things about eBay is the Buy it Now option. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have the time and/or emotional bandwidth to bid on something I love. I just need to know if I can have it, ya know?! When I am searching for items, I ALWAYS turn on that filter! eBay sells so many new decor pieces, right alongside their unique finds.

So now that you are in the club, let me show you what I did to my office!

I ordered 2 different options off of eBay for my office.

Option 1 is a flat woven Kilim with a neutral base that I got for $150. It was a little smaller than my ideal size, but I LOVED the heavy pattern and had my fingers crossed that it would be ok. I’m feeling like it’s not quite right for the space. I love the pattern, but it feels just a little small.

Option 2 is hand-knotted wool Ushak (there is that keyword!) that I got for $170. The size was way better (7’6 long vs. 6′), and the colors are so good. Because it’s knotted and not flat woven, it is cushier underfoot and our dogs love it. They are in here sleeping every time I’m working. Which I obviously love, it’s just a little stinky (French Bulldog. If you know, you know).

Which one do you like better?!

New Planters

I also swapped out the problematic terra cotta planter for a simple white one. It’s a little smaller in size and looks 500% better!

I am always on the hunt for planters (obviously, it’s an ongoing effort with my plant addiction), and I loved this modern bell-shaped terrazzo one! It’s got a little color but is still a good neutral (also, why I love color in EVERYTHING but planters are beyond me!)

All in all, I am thrilled with how this quick makeover turned out!

I’ve rounded up some of my favorite vintage rugs below! Remember these are one of a kind, if they are sold out scroll to the bottom of the listing to see similar styles!

Follow my blog with BloglovinYayyy! It’s One Room Challenge reveal day!!! For the last 6 weeks I’ve been sharing peeks into my niece’s nursery, everything from the painting by my great grandma that inspired it all, to the ADORABLE rainbow arch wall treatment. And this week is the reveal!!

So let’s get into it!

This is where we started, a plain Mandi White room that was storage overflow and packed to the brim.

We got it all cleared out and started by hand painting rainbow arches on the walls. It is such an easy DIY, you can 100% tackle it on a Saturday!! We used 2 colors of Sherwin-Williams Emerald interior paint (Mandi White and Softened Green) and mixed them to get the varying colors!!

And now that it’s all done, this is how it looks!

It’s so colorful and perfect!

The crib, dresser, and rug are all from Overstock! You can read all about why I chose each one here! I love how the different styles make the room feel collected and special!

My favorite thing in the whole room is the DIY pressed flower mobile.

While we were in France I picked and pressed a few different types of flowers, and sandwiched them between acrylic discs.

The black and white print is a photograph that my Great Grandma took that I blew up and hung behind the crib. That guy on the pier with all of the fishing gear is my Great Grandpa.

The plant I used is an Audrey Ficus and MAN is it good. It’s a cousin to the Rubber Plant and Fiddle Leaf Fig, and it’s velvet green leaves are magical. I can’t wait to teach you guys all about how to care for it!!

Of course, no Vintage Revivals room would be complete without some serious plant love. All of the plants that I used love indirect light and will be so happy in here!!

I am on a serious Nativity kick this year (remember my post last week?)

Black and White Modern Nativity Print with Balsa Wood Frame and Yarn Tassel Garland

In all of my hunting I found a really great piece from Clinton Whiting. It wasn’t available for sale on his site and I was super bummed. So I decided to go our on a limb and email him and see if he had it available for sale off his site. He didn’t (SAD!) so I did what any good blogger would do, I asked him if he would let me list it in my shop for a limited run. I was OVER THE MOON when he agreed (you can download the limited edition print for just $12 here!) and couldn’t wait to get it up in our sad decor-less house (remember we’re living at the inlaws old house while we renovate the Merc and all of their stuff is gone and all of our stuff is in storage so….)

The other dilem was that I had no tools. Heavens I don’t even think we have a pair of scissors. So I had to get creative and go back to the early days of Vintage Revivals DIY for which I can vouch were both horrendous and sort of ingenious. If you don’t have tools, but can wield a fierce glue gun this project is right up your alley!

To make this project you’ll need:

(2) 4″x36″ Pieces of Balsa Wood (snag this at Joann or Michaels, it’s WAY cheaper than buying it online!)
(2) Large Grommets
Rope
Poster board*
Print

To save some cash I had this printed as a large format print (where it’s basically printed on normal paper, just really big normal paper) Large format prints run around $2.00 so they are a great money saving option! The problem is that the paper is very flimsy and needs some stability. I wrapped mine around a piece of poster board and it worked great, but if you want you can have it *printed on higher quality paper and it will kill 2 birds with one stone.

I printed mine out at 20×30″, you can have it printed almost any size you want though!

I started by wrapping the print around the posterboard and gluing it in place.

Mounting A Print to Posterboard using a Hot Glue Gun

Measure and cut the balsa wood so that it hangs over 1″ past the edge of your print.

Balsa Wood Exacto Knife

Glue the balsa wood to the front of your print (make sure its centered!!) on the top and bottom.

Gluing Balsa Wood To Print Making a 5 Minute Balsa Wood Picture Frame

Measure 4″ from the edge of the balsa wood and mark. Then measure the center point on your wood (mine was 2″ because the wood is 4″ thick). Repeat on the other side

Tape Measure, Pencil and Print to Mark Holes for Rivets

Firmly press the face of the grommet into the balsa wood. The wood is soft enough that it will push all the way through! Not a tool in sight!!

Grommet Punch Out

The balsa wood holds the grommet in place. I chose not to set it (by putting the back on) because I didn’t want to dent the front of the wood.

Feed your rope through the grommets and knot them.

Threading Rope Through Grommet on Modern Nativity Frame

Hang and enjoy!!

How easy was that?!! Guys, let me just tell you how great it felt actually completing a project, I was on cloud 9 the rest of the day!! Man alive I can’t wait until we’re in the Merc!

Snag your print here before they’re gone!!

I am absolutely in love with this DIY Geometric Wreath. It’s a tutorial that I pull out every time the holidays come around because it works with any style of decor! You can hang this wreath on your wall or on your front door. It is a quick and fun project that you can do in under an hour!

DIY Geometric Wreath Tutorial

You know when you are so inspired by something it is all you can think about!? I want to Himmeli everything.

What is Himmeli?

Lets back up. You are probably saying “Himmeli?” Lets. discuss. Himmeli is a traditional Scandinavian art. They typically make them at Christmas time and they are the most gorgeous mobiles that you have ever seen (Google it!!)

The wreath and how to make something similar lived in my every thought for days. After trying my hand at making simple Himmeli ornaments, I felt like I understood the design process a lot better. Looking at a 3 dimensional object 2 dimensionally is enough to give you an aneurism. After trying a few techniques I feel like I came up with an extremely easy technique to make a geometric wreath.

(And when I say easy, I mean my 10 year old can do it. So you can totally do it too!)

Tutorials for this type of project are notoriously confusing and make you want to give up on life completely. I am doing everything I can to combat that problem. Please don’t give up on life.

How To Video

I even made a video because, lets face it, sometimes it is just easier to learn things in person.

But of course I had to do a regular tutorial too. So lets get to it!

Himmeli Wreath Supply List

You can also purchase a brass wreath kit from the Vintage Revivals shop!

Start by cutting your straws down to right length. To make a wreath that is 19 inches at its widest point I cut the straws to 4 1/2 inches.

The fastest and most efficient way to cut 105 straws is to use a rotary cutter and a guide.

Geometric Wreath Tutorial vintagerevivals.com-27

Before you get started I have a few tips:

  • When you are connecting the wire you will only need to wrap it once (unless you are finishing a line, then you will want to wrap it a couple more times.)
  • Tuck in as many of the tails as you can (I talk about this a little bit more in the video)
  • Handle this like it is a newborn baby flower. VERY carefully. Straw is not the strongest material on the planet.

Now is the fun part.

Making your wreath sections

Step 1: Measure out 2 1/2 arms length of wire.

How To Make a Geometric Straw Wreath Step 1

Step 2: Thread 4 straws on the wire

Geometric Himmeli Wreath Tutorial Step 2

Step 3: Twist the wire together to form a diamond with the straws

Geometric Wreath Tutorial Step 3

Step 4: Add 2 more straws to the wire

DIY Wreath Step 4

Step 5: Twist and attach the wire at the opposite end of the diamond

How To Make Himmeli

Step 6: Continue adding 2 straws and twisting them until you have a shape with 5 sections.

Himmeli Wreath Step 6

Step 7: Feed the wire back through one of the straw sections so that it is coming out of the elbow

How To Make a Geometric Wreath Step 7

Step 8: Add one section of straw to the wire

Geometric Himmeli Wreath Tutorial Step 8

Step 9: Connect the wire to the elbow of the next section

Geometric Himmeli Pentagon Step 9

Step 10: Repeat until 4 or the 5 sections are connected and you have a shape similar to Pacman

Geometric Wreath DIY Step 10

You are done with your first piece!! Now you just need to make 7 of these PacMan/Pentagon shapes. After you have done that,  this is where you pick up the tutorial.

Step 11: Connect the open space to the side of the next space by threading the wire through the straw in the second piece.

Wire Wreath Tutorial Step 11

DIY Geometric Wreath

Step 12: Secure the wire to the corner of the first piece.

How To Make A Himmeli Wreath

Step 13: Connect all 7 shapes together to make a circle.

DIY Wreath Step 12

Step 14: Add 2 Arms Length (approx. 10 feet) of wire to the center point on the face of one pentagon. Thread a piece of straw on the wire and connect it to the center of the next pentagon.

Geometric Wreath How To Step 13

Step 15: Connect all the center points together

Openwork Wreath Tutorial

Clip your wires and you are done!

One little tip, if you are planning on spray painting your wreath string a small piece of wire from one of the outer points so you have something to hold while you are painting! (I used this gold to paint mine!)

Just an FYI the center wreath in this picture is a different design. The 2 wreaths on the outsides are from this tutorial. You can find the tutorial for the middle one here!

Did you guys catch the full reveal of my daughter Ivie’s bathroom?! It is one of my favorite spaces I’ve ever designed!! This post is giving you all of the details on the eye candy and everything you need to know to recreate it yourself!

So lets get to sourcing!

The star of the show is the mural designed by Colleen Elizabeth, I have been obsessing over her creations for such a long time and was so excited when she said she would design one just for this space. You can see the full step by step tutorial for the Paint By Numbers mural here! The Memo Light is from Article and such a fun addition!

The black and white floor tile is from Daltile, you can get it at homedepot.com and read all about why I chose it here! I also used in stock white 4×4 tile for the shower and wall. I’ve been wanting to tile an entire wall again after doing it in my $939 bathroom renovation and it just gives off a vibe unlike any other.

Mirror is from West Elm (if you’re close to Las Vegas, check out my post about their top secret outlet store!) The retail price is $499 but I scored it for under $200!

The lights are Hudson Valley Lighting Tate in aged brass.

Our amazing cabinet guys Shawn from Aspen Mill (if you’re southern Utah local!) did SUCH an amazing job on the vanity. It’s the perfect nod to industrial that I wanted! Cabinet hardware is from CB2 (backplate + knob).

One of my favorite elements that turned the entire design of the Merc on it’s head (literally) is the plumbing fixtures that we used. Going into the Merc I thought I was going be all about the modern brass, but when I saw Kohler’s Artifact collection in Vintage Nickel my world stopped spinning one way and started spinning another. I absolutely LOVE this hardware, and paired with their Iron Plains sink it is heavenly.

Can we just talk about the shower door? I had it custom made by a local company called Desert Sun Glass. It makes the ENTIRE ROOM and is the first thing that people comment on when they see the space.

The plant shelves are a quick 15 minute project and have a tutorial coming next week as well!

Walking into the bedroom, you can see right into the closet, so it needed to be something that was special. We’ve got a how to coming up on building it, so stay tuned for that! The hanging globe light is from West Elm.

The towel rack and toilet paper holder are custom- BUT GUESS WHAT?! We’re going to be selling them in our shop!! Make sure you are following along so you dont miss the launch announcement!!

I absolutely love the art prints. The photos from Iceland are from Jenny’s Print Shop  1 2 3. And the print hanging above the toilet is from my new favorite artist Hannah Ward. It’s called the Healer’s Hand and I think its the perfect touch of spirituality. The prints hanging in the closet are the coolest photo collages from Hav House.

Sometimes you need things in your life that have a little extra oomph to them. This tutorial for how to make pom poms can be used on any blanket, any pillow, any door, and in any space in your house!

How To Make A Giant Pom Pom Throw

How To Make A Pom Pom

When I made the giant pom pom blanket for Dylan’s room, it was SO cute. I loved it. Then I started seeing pink yarn all over my house. There was a problem,  the poms were molting.

Pom Pom Problems

I really wanted to come up with a better solution before I shared the tutorial with you guys, cause that is what friends do.

The really good news is that I have figured out a way to make the poms stay together so that the blanket is easier to wash, and so that you wont feel like you have a LaLaLoopsy that has alopecia living in your house.

Giant Pom Poms Need A Strong Base

Typically pom pom templates are made out of cardboard. That is great and all, but when you are making 10-15 giant poms then you are going to go through quite few templates (like a new one for every 2 poms). All that wrapping breaks down the cardboard and it gets really floppy. So we need to use something stronger than cardboard.

The Easy Way To Make Giant Pom Poms

The magic template is an embroidery hoop. Well, the inside ring of an embroidery hoop to be exact.

Supplies you will need:

  • One 5” embroidery hoop
  • 1 Skein of Yarn for every 2 pom poms (I use extra thick yarn because it looks really beautiful and expensive and less like a muppet.)
  • 1 spool of Upholstery Thread
  • Good Scissors

Step 1: Take the center of your embroidery hoop.

Supplies to Make Pom Poms

Step 2: Start wrapping your yard around the hoop.

How To Make Giant Pom Poms Tutorial vintagerevivals.com

Step 3: Tie with the Upholstery Thread

After you have wrapped it around about 15 times, take a piece of your upholstery thread and wrap it around the center of your yarn a few times and then tie a tight knot.

Make sure that each round of upholstery thread is TIGHT. If it’s not, your pom poms will shed!

Make Giant Pom Poms Tutorial vintagerevivals.com

Step 4: Start wrapping again.

It is ok if your upholstery thread gets lost in the mix, you will trim it when you are done! Keep wrapping until you have wrapped 20-25 times again.

How To Make Pom Poms Tutorial vintagerevivals.com

Step 5: Tie with Upholstery Thread Again

Wrap your thread around and tie a knot.

Easy Way to Make Pom Poms vintagerevivals.com

Step 6: Repeat!

Start wrapping again. Wrap 20-25 times. At this point (if you are using extra thick yarn) you have probably used about 1/2 of your skein. That is the goal, to get 2 pom poms out of each one. If you have used more that 1/2, unwind it a little and even out the amounts.

Wrap your thread a few times and tie a knot.

Pom Pom Tutorial

Isn’t it so chubs!

Step 7: Add The Tie

Now take a piece of yarn that is about 12” long. Wrap it over your upholstery thread and tie a knot,  leaving as much as you can on one side of your yarn. This is what you are going to use to connect it to your blanket.

DIY Pom Poms

Step 8: Cut the yarn off of the hoop

This is where the sharp scissors come into play. It just makes things SO much easier if they are sharp. Trust me, my Dollar Store ones were NOT doing the trick.

Cut along the fold in your yarn along the hoop.

Pom Pom Maker

You might have to wiggle the yarn around a little to be able to fit your scissors underneath it.

How to Make Yarn Pom Poms

Once you are done, cut along the other side. (This one goes much faster because it isn’t tight against the hoop. When you are finished you will notice that you don’t have a round pom pom. Its more of an acorn shape. Don’t stress, this is an easy fix.

Shaping Pom Poms

Step 9: Shape your Pom Pom

Hold onto the longer pieces of yarn at the bottom of your pom (you will have to do this at the top too)

Channel your inner hair dresser and start hacking.

Triming Yarn Pom Poms

You will notice that the yarn on the sides of the pom are perfect, it is just the top and bottom that need trimming. Round it out so that they match the sides. I like to spin it a little so I can see where it is lopsided.

How To Make Pom Poms

Be careful when you are cutting the top that you don’t cut the long piece that is going to attach to the blanket!

Step By Step Tutorial for Making Pom Poms

This is the part where you become a pom pom making machine. (I made 10 pom poms for my blanket today, but you can use as may or as little as you want!

How To Make Pom Poms

Attaching Your Pom Poms

When you have made all of your pom poms it is time to attach them to your blanket. I found this off white knit throw at Homegoods for $20.00. This time of year is AMAZING for finding inexpensive throw blankets.

Attaching your pom is so simple.

Attaching Pom Poms to a Blanket

Step 1: Thread Your Yarn

Thread your yarn through one of the openings in the knit. (I just used my fingers, but if you have a smaller knit or something that you have to poke a hole in I would use this paperclip technique!)

How To Make a Giant Pom Pom Blanket

Step 2: Loop It and Tie

Bring the end back underneath the knot you tied around the center of the pom pom.

How To Make A Pom Pom Blanket

Feed it through the hole in the blanket again. And then tie it off at the knot in the middle of the pom pom. (So there will be 2 loops going from the pom pom to the blanket.

Step 3: Trim the extra and you are done!!

Hey hey!! I’m back today with all the delicious details of the guest room makeover I did for my sister Amy! Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I wish there was more DIY involved, but this was done totally weekend warrior style so while there is some, a lot of it can be sourced (which is great if you’re not that into DIY.)

First lets start with the wall color. Last week we announced that Sherwin-Williams 2018 Color of the Year is Oceanside. Its a really deep teal that’s a little bit on the blueish side.

I recruited my best helpers (sorry Court) and we knocked the painting out. One thing to note, when you’re using really dark colors, especially ones that are in the green family, you’re definitely going to need more than one coat of paint, with Amy’s room we did 2 + touchups where it needed more.

The dark wall was the perfect backdrop for the Macrame bed. For the last year, even trip to IKEA left me wanting this bed. It was just screaming for a custom macrame headboard right?!

bed | sconce | shelf | tree | pillow | light | rug | stool

While we were at IKEA we scored the cabinet in the As-Is section for next to nothing!

letter board | print | mirror | chair | pillow | cabinet

The mirror above the cabinet is the most basic of Target staples right now and I’m of the belief that everyone needs at least 2 in their house. The thin brass frame is just so fundamentally good. Like most weekend warrior projects, we did some scavenging and found these prints  that Amy had on hand from Society 6.

My heart just feels so happy with how great our Vintage Green letter board looks here!!

One of my favorite places to visit in Vegas is the West Elm outlet store. That’s where she got the great camel leather chair and a few things that are in the other rooms of the house. You can find really great pieces at fantastic prices, so check it our if you’re ever down there.

I LOVE white bedding. Like I don’t know if I’ve ever used anything else in a room makeover love. The reason? Because in what world would you be able to pair that wall color with that pillow AND have a colored duvet and live to tell the tale? It would not be a good combination. White makes it all play nice. I layered white sheets, a white throw, and a white duvet on the bed (all from IKEA).

The long lumbar pillow is made from a rug that got stuffed and whip stitched together. It grounds the wall with its muted muddy colors. Imagine how different it would feel if they were bright true tones? Totally different!! I also really love that its a single statement making pillow instead of a slew of different ones, it makes the bed making for guests less tetris-y.

One thing to keep in mind when you’re decorating guest room is that they don’t really need a lot of drawers. There is a closet at the foot of the bed, and the cabinet from IKEA, so we didn’t really need a nightstand. But we did need something. So used this simple shelf from Target that is a great place for a cup, a pair of glasses, or a phone to hang out while it charges.

I feel like we need a serious slow clap for that wall sconce from World Market, which is also where the ceiling light came from. So much goodness.

You may have heard it said on the interwebs before that the faux fiddle leaf from World Market is the best. I am here to add my big fat gold star that situation. It is HANDS DOWN the best that I’ve seen, and the price isn’t horrible! A real one in St. George at my local Home Depot runs anywhere from $79-$149 and usually dies within 4 months. This one is $179 and lives FOREVER!

The map on the wall was a craigslist score, the seller had a whole rack of them that I got for $350!! If I ever decide to sell a couple, you guys will be the first to know!

I love how this space turned out, especially that macrame bed. It is one of my favorite projects that I’ve done in a very long time!! The problem is that I just kind of made it up as I went, so I don’t really have a great tutorial for it. Would you guys be interested in a post with a round up of the knot styles that I used, even if its not the exact pattern? Or MAYBE if someone is a great macrame artist that makes patterns, you can email me and we can figure something out!?

Hey hey!! I’ve got a fun room makeover for you today! My sister Amy just moved to Vegas from Texas, and I can not even begin to tell you how wonderful that makes my heart feel. So naturally, I had to welcome her with a room makeover right?!

We decided to start off with her guest room, and going into it we were quite literally starting with a blank slate.

Using Sherwin-Williams® 2018 Color of the Year, Oceanside SW 6496 we turned it into this stunner:

Aren’t you so in love with that wall color?! When I found out that the 2018 Color of the Year was Oceanside my first thought was “well, that’s bold” and it is, but in a laid back enough way that everyone can pull it off! I paired it with Sherwin-Williams 2016 Color of the Year Alabaster SW 7008 (remember the baby’s nursery? Man I loved that room.), and it created this amazing balance between light and dark. I used Emerald® Interior   for the paint, I’ve got a whole post diving into paint sheen, but I used matte to minimize the wall texture as much as I could.

I didn’t use a ton of color anywhere else because the wall is the very clear star of the show. Just a little terra cotta here and there, mixed woods, and camel leather, with lots of greenery (and how great does the Vintage Green letter board look?!)

So lets dive into the design, shall we?

The bed. *Sigh* the first time we locked eyes in Ikea I knew it needed to be macramed within an inch of its life and I’ve been plotting ever since (it only goes up to a queen size, so that was my problem).

I LOVE how it turned out. The knots that I used are ultra basic, and anyone can do this project! I got the rope from Knot and Rope Supply and ordered a 600 ft spool. We ended up using about 1/2 of it for this project…which means another one is probably in my future, you know so I can stare and pet it every day.

Oceanside is such a commanding color, mixed with anything else remotely vibrant the space could go full on colorfest faster than you can say Punky. I pared it with a lot of muted colors. The oversized pillow on the bed is this rug from World Market and some stuffing! Check out how the geniuses at Sherwin-Williams created a space and got more complimentary color ideas!

On the wall by the window I used one of my vintage maps (remember when I used one in the $939 bathroom makeover?) These aren’t the kind of things that you just give up, so I figure if the people in my family have them than at least I know if I need to break in and steal it they likely won’t press charges…

Murfey Jean is a huge fan.

Full source list post is coming tomorrow!

HUGE thank you to Sherwin-Williams for partnering up with me on this fun project!!

Congratulations to Lauren Silveira for winning the social giveaway we hosted for the Color of the Year earlier this week! She won a design consultation from me, five gallons of Sherwin-Williams paint and a gift card from West Elm.

If you’d like additional inspiration for styling a room featuring Oceanside SW 6496, you can enlist some help from West Elm’s knowledgeable Design Crew to help select furniture, home accessories and more.

Tell me what you think the 2018 Color of the Year, do you think you could picture it in your house?!

Hey guys!! Are you sitting down? Good. Cause I’m about to blow your freaking mind. When you think of The Home Depot, what comes to mind? Tools? Wood? Plants? Orange smiling faces? Add another thing to that list, HOME DECOR! They just rolled out their new decor line, and you’re not going to believe how terribly good it is.

If your house is feeling a little lost, one of my best tips to make it feel like a home and add some critical personality is to mix vintage and new. Vintage pieces add the soul and new pieces make the space feel updated.

As most of you know, we moved out of our house in January and into the inlaws basement. When Home Depot reached out about styling a space with some of my favorite pieces I couldn’t shout yes loud enough. I love paying it forward and no one helps me more with the kiddos than my adorable sister in law Lindsay. (You might remember her daughter Macie’s bedroom that we made over a few years ago.) Her entryway is the lucky space. She recently repainted and installed new flooring and I was so excited to give her a little design nudge.

Every time I go to my storage unit, my heart breaks a little for the pieces that are just sitting in there. I know, its a little dramatic, but when that rolling door opens and I see all of my favorite things just sitting there collecting dust I want to lovingly console each of them. After looking at Lindsay’s entryway I knew that it was the perfect spot for my card catalog (you can see how it started out here, but consider yourself warned, if furniture abuse is a trigger you might not want to click that link)

Once I knew what the star was going to be, I went to homedepot.com and got to work. Guys. There are SO MANY GOOD THINGS. Always being a woman on a budget, I picked out some of my favorites that won’t blow your budget (the chair! the rug!!)

The first thing that jumped into my cart were these metal Windsor style chair (how great is it that its metal?! Classic style, easy modern finish and only $157 for a pair!) They are oversized and have a wide back that fans out at the top. They would be perfect in a dining room or office too!

Can we just have a moment of silence for the area rug? Its 5×8 and only $126! WHAT!???!?

Seeing as how leather is my love language, there was no way I could resist this
leather mirror
. I am obsessed with the little yellow accent stitches, sometimes it really is the small things guys.

It was really important for the space to be as functional as possible and one of the must haves is a large basket for shoes. The basket that I used is natural, but is also extremely heavy duty (you know how sometimes wicker or rattan falls apart after a short time of heavy shoes being flung inside?) I was pleasantly surprised at how durable this basket is.

You guys know I love a good shelf build, but sometimes its really wonderful to just buy one. The white 24″ shelf that I used is in stock at your local Home Depot all the time!

I added a faux olive tree, simple black framed art, and an old camera to liven up the gigantor wall.

Now tell me how you’re feeling, can you believe all of those treasures came from our favorite orange store!?

Check out homedepot.com for all the mind blowing pieces, and The Apron blog for loads of DIY ideas!

Huge thanks to Home Depot for partnering with me on this post!
